Veterans Square

The Veterans Square Refurbishment project at the Municipality of Clarington Town Hall included a total comprehensive redesign of the square, with the cenotaph respectfully preserved as the main central memorial feature. A combination of architectural planting and civic elements establishes a dignified and contemplative atmosphere appropriate for remembrance.

Within the constrained site, the square was carefully organized to accommodate multiple client-driven functions, including scooter parking and charging near the southern stair entrance, a partially screened outdoor working area with tables and power outlets toward the rear, and a small artificial turf pet relief area for user convenience. The overall layout is defined by a bold, irregular diagonal geometry, expressed through varied unit paver patterns, planting beds, and retaining walls that reinforce visual focus toward the cenotaph and the monumental building stair behind. A coordinated lighting strategy enhances safety, usability, and character during evening hours.
