HKLA was retained by Kaitlin Corporation to provide landscape architectural and arboricultural services for a proposed multi-unit residential development at 51–55 Clarington Boulevard in Bowmanville, Ontario. The project involved the planning and design of outdoor spaces to support a high-density apartment/condominium development while meeting the requirements of the Municipality of Clarington and applicable regional agencies.

HKLA’s scope included conducting a detailed tree inventory and preparing a Tree Preservation Plan to assess and mitigate the impacts of development on existing vegetation. In parallel, the firm developed a comprehensive landscape design package, including boulevard planting, site-wide softscape and hardscape treatments, and the design of multiple amenity spaces such as three ground-level areas and a rooftop amenity terrace. These designs were advanced through preliminary and detailed submission stages to support municipal review and approvals.

Through coordination with the client and consultant team, HKLA delivered a cohesive landscape strategy that balanced urban design objectives with environmental considerations. Construction of the 51 Clarington Boulevard building has since been completed, with the 55 Clarington Boulevard phase to follow, reflecting the project’s phased implementation. The project demonstrates the firm’s ability to deliver compliant, well-integrated landscape and arboricultural solutions for residential developments, including the incorporation of functional amenity spaces and the protection of existing natural features within a constrained urban setting.
